Wesmen Athletics is saddened to learn of the passing of our former Athletic Director Doran Reid.

Doran's connection to UWinnipeg and the Wesmen spanned more than 30 years until his retirement in 2015, and his passion for university sport and, specifically the Wesmen, endured throughout his life.

A UWinnipeg graduate ('81), Doran started with the Athletics department in 1989 at the Duckworth Centre service desk and over the years held a variety of roles, which stood as a shining illustration of his commitment to the department and Wesmen student-athletes.

Doran served as a coordinator of facilities and Athletics events before moving on to senior administration, first as the Wesmen associate director of athletics and eventually into the position of Athletic Director in 2009.

Doran was proud to be a Wesmen not only throughout his career but in the years after he moved on to Ottawa where he resided closer to family. He kept the Wesmen close to his heart and the successes of UWinnipeg teams and student-athletes were always of great joy to him. Even from many kilometres away, Doran was sure to keep tabs on the Wesmen he loved so much.

The UWinnipeg Athletics department often prides itself on its close-knit Wesmen Family, and few people epitomize that sentiment more than Doran.

Wesmen Athletics sends its deepest condolences to the Reid Family including wife Cara, daughter Kristy and son Eric.

He will forever be a Wesmen.

A moment of silence will be held for Doran prior to the first serve of the Wesmen women's volleyball match on Nov. 8 (6 p.m.)
