On Thursday, April 4, 2024, the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame and Museum was very proud to welcome Indigenous educator Doris Ironstar-Der, her husband, Tom and her daughter, Amy, who performed a smudging ceremony with sage and traditional medicines at our site.
This was part of our commitment to reconciliation, our new Indigenous Basketball display, and Robyn Boulanger's research project completed last year. Doris spoke of how the traditional ways of our Indigenous people relate to today's youth and sport in general. It was a very educational and powerful session for all of us.
We are thankful to Doris and are committed to moving further along this path of welcoming and including all peoples in our sport - past and present.
