Reynold Reyes was a trailblazer and a true pioneer of the Filipino basketball community. He came to Canada in the early 1970s and, at a time when the Filipino community was relatively small in Winnipeg, he led in the organization of three volunteer-driven leagues and inspired many others now in leadership roles. He was the President of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBAW), the first Filipino basketball league in Manitoba, and he led that league from1973 to 1977. He was the Chair of the Barangay Filipino Organization of Manitoba (BFOM) Basketball League 1984-85 and President of the Philippine National Youth Cagers League (PNYC) 1986-88. The opportunities he gave to young people of all nationalities set the foundation for many other leagues and his legacy is seen in how many of those people are still involved in the game today.
