Biography

Joe Di Curzio is one of the most successful coaches in Manitoba basketball history. He started as a Junior High coach at Churchill High School and then at Red River College in the 1970s where he led the Rebels to three conference championships. From there, he went to Tec Voc High School where he coached the Hornets to two Junior Varsity and two Varsity Boys ‘AAAA’ Provincial Championships. At Tec Voc, he served as the commissioner/chair of the Winnipeg Invitational Tournament (WIT) for 27 years. During that time, for seven years, he also acted as an assistant coach with the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Men’s’ team. In addition, he coached the Team Manitoba provincial teams to two bronze medals. From 2013-2023, he was the head women’s coach at Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) where he led the Blazers to a record five consecutive MCAC championships. Furthermore, he served on the board of Basketball Manitoba for many years, was President 2000-2013 and on the board of Canada Basketball for nine years. In 2014, he was named the Mike Spack Award recipient recognizing his significant contribution to the growth and development of basketball in Manitoba.
