Margaret Mulder graduated from Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie, Ontario where she was a multi-sport athlete. She started her university career at York University in 1982 before playing two years with the Halifax Red Foxes Senior team and the Nova Scotia Canada Games team in 1984. At the 1986 National Senior Championships, she was selected a tournament All-Star. After a short stay at Dalhousie University, she transferred to the University of Winnipeg where she starred from 1986 to 1989 and became one of the all-time best Wesmen.
During those years, she was a two-time GPAC (Great Plains Athletic Conference) All-Star, GPAC Player-of-the-Year and a first team All-Canadian in 1987-88 when she averaged 20.8 points per game, shot 44% from the floor and averaged 7.8 rebounds per game. Margaret was also selected as the CIAU/CIS Player-of- the-Week on two occasions. She then went on to a stint with Canada’s National Team in 1988.
