Lions to one MHSAA ‘AAAA’ Provincial Championship in 1967, a Fort Garry Invitational Tournament (FGIT) championship in 1963 and three championships, 1962, 1966 and 1970, at the Golden Boy Tournament which became the Wesmen Classic. In addition, he served on the
organizing committee for the FGIT for over 20 years. His work with local junior high schools through coaching clinics helped develop a strong feeder system for St. Vital high schools. He was the first president of the Manitoba Basketball Coaches’ Association and the first coach at the Royal Canadian Legion International Peace Gardens basketball camp where he coached for 6 years. As an administrator at Acadia Junior High and Crane and Oakenwald Elementary Schools, he led in the development of strong basketball programs by attracting young teacher-coaches.
His involvement in the BeeBall program saw many inner-city youth have the opportunity to play in a program coached by high school students whom he mentored. Dennis also coached in the Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association (WMBA) for five years. He has a true legacy of both players and coaches whom he has influenced over many years. All of this was done with integrity and a quiet gentlemanly manner.
