A native of Hamiota and a nursing graduate, Lorna volunteered to coach junior high, freshmen, and varsity girls’ basketball at Hamiota Collegiate -- and did so for 30 years, from 1962 through 1975 and 1984 through 2001. Lorna’s varsity girls’ teams have consistently been competitive, winning the Provincial A Championships in 1987, ’88, ’92, ’93, and ’94.

In addition to coaching, she helped players develop in the off season by bringing in guest coaches. Lorna was also involved with the Manitoba Basketball Coaches Association. She was instrumental in having A, AA, AAA players being included by the Association in its annual awards and All Star games.
