Deb Steele played with the University of Winnipeg Wesmen 1977 to 1980 after beginning her university career in Nova Scotia. The native of Alberta was a two-time Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) All-Star in 1979 and 1980 and a CIAU All-Canadian in 1979-80. During that season, she scored 36 points and had 29 rebounds in one game, and amassed 640 total points. During her career, she set Wesmen records for scoring and rebounds. Furthermore, she was a member of Canada’s National Team, 1976 to 1980, and won a bronze medal in the World Championships in South Korea in 1979. With her size and mobility, she was a dominant force for many years.
