Norm graduated from J.H. Bruns Collegiate and then moved on to the University of Winnipeg Wesmen where he had a very successful 5-year career. He set all-time Wesmen career records in shooting percentage and rebounding. He was a three-time GPAC (Great Plains Athletic Conference) All-Star in 1991-92, 1993-94, and 1994-95. In 1994-95, when he averaged 23.7 points per game, he was selected a first team CIAU/CIS All-Canadian.
Norm represented Canada many times on national teams in Argentina, Malaysia, Taiwan, and the United States, winning a silver medal at the World Student Games in Buffalo, New York in 1993.
He also had a very successful professional career in Germany where he played for seven years in their Bundesliga Division 1 on teams in Braunschweig, Bamberg, Ulm, and Giessen.
At seven feet, Norm is undoubtedly one of the best big men ever to come out of Manitoba.
