Dan graduated from Fort Richmond Collegiate in 1984 and accepted a scholarship at the NCAA Division 1 school St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After one season he transferred to the University of Colorado (NCAA Division 1) where he played three years, 1986-89. He was a major contributor to the success of the Buffaloes leading the team in scoring and rebounding multiple times. In 1988 he was selected to the Big Eight Conference Select Team that toured Europe and participated in the Bratislava International Tournament in Czechoslovakia.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in marketing degree Dan began a long and successful professional career which took him all over the world. He played in Portugal, Germany, Luxembourg, Israel, Spain, Finland, Mexico, and Australia.
Dan was invited to try-out for the NBA's Indiana Pacers and the Denver Nuggets selecting to attend camp with the Indiana Pacers in 1991.
Dan represented Canada in the 1989 World FISU Games in Germany and twice in Taiwan's Jones cup capturing a Silver Medal after facing the United States in the finals in 1984. In addition, he played with the Omaha Racers of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), the Long Island Surf of the United States Basketball League (USBL), the Greensboro Gators of the GBA and for both of the only professional basketball teams in Winnipeg's history the Winnipeg Cyclone and the Winnipeg Thunder.
