On graduating from Westmount Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1977, Jude played his university basketball at Brandon University in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, and 1983, making an outstanding contribution to the team's success.
Jude led the Bobcats to four straight Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) championships. He earned first-team GPAC honours in 1981, 1982 and 1983 and, in 1982, was GPAC Player of the Year. On graduating, Jude was the Bobcats' all-time leading scorer till then, with 2,981 points, averaging just over 17 points per game.
Jude was a second-team All-Canadian in 1982 and 1983. In 1983, he was a tournament All-Star at the Canadian Inter-University Athletic Union championship (CIAU).
