As a youngster, Joe started playing basketball in a wolf club league
for Home Street United Church. He became a member of the Winnipeg
"Toilers" in 1931. Considered to have the best long set shot in
Manitoba, Joe starred for the 1932 National Championship "Toilers". Joe
was killed in the plane crash in March 1933, when the "Toilers" were
returning from a series with the Tulsa "Oilers", who were the Untied
States Amateur Champions.
