A graduate of Kelvin High School, Jim played in senior men's league with the "Maroons" and then the "Independents". In 1921 with breakup of the "Independents", he moved to the "Toilers". From then until the end of the 1930 season, Jim was an integral member of the "Toilers" that won Canadian Championships in 1926 and 1927.
