As sports editor for the Winnipeg Tribune for over twenty years, Jack
always made sure basketball had good coverage, particularly at the
local level. His first assignment as a cub sports reporter in 1946-47
was covering the seniors at the Y.M.C.A. As a sports reporter, Jack
covered the senior league and chronicled the rise of Carl Ridd and Roy
Williams from Gordon Bell to the 1952 Olympics.
Jack was also instrumental in the formation of the Junior
Men's League that produced national championship teams like the
Stellars and the Winnipeg Light Infantry (W.L.I.).
