A graduate of Glenlawn Collegiate, Herb was a dominate "big" man in
junior and senior basketball throughout the 1950's. As a junior, he was
a member of the Winnipeg "Stellars" that won the Canadian Junior
Championship in 1951. As a senior, he was on the "Paulin's" team that
won the Canadian National Championship and that represented Canada at
the World Basketball Championships in Brazil in 1954. In 1959, he
played with the Tillsonburg "Livingstones" that represented Canada in
the 1959 Pan American Games.
